Who We Serve

Many of us have unlimited access to books in our libraries and reading is something that we take for granted. Some of us also have books at home that are sitting on our shelves unread. BelieveNBooks will be focused on donating books to children who do not have ready access to books. We are partnering with non-profit organizations to distribute books in Southwest Florida and beyond!

How Poverty Puts Children at Risk

In 2009, in an article for Teachers College Record, Richard Allington and Anne McGill-Franzen presented an article called “Access to Books”. These key statistics are critical to understanding the impact of the reading gap created by lack of access to books.

  • 61% percent of low-income families have no books at all in their homes for their children.
  • The most successful way to improve the reading achievement of low-income children is to increase their access to print.
  • The only behavior measure that correlates significantly with reading scores is the number of books in the home.

How Can We Help?

One immediate response to the reading achievement gap is access to books. BelieveNBooks wants to help reduce this gap by providing books to as many children as we can. It is our priority to help create easy access to as many books as possible.
